4 Best Foods for a Healthier You

There are many foods from various food groups that should a part of our every day diets in order to achieve ultimate health. These foods help our bodies and immune systems stay strong and healthy because of their excellent source of vitamins, minerals and many other nutrients our bodies need. These foods and their contained nutrients will not only benefit our immune systems, but will also help ward off diseases while controlling our weight as well.

Our diets should include foods from all food groups which include meat, grains, fish, vegetables, and fruits. Here is a list of foods and their value along with how they can benefit our bodies.

  • Berries- Almost all berries are included on the list of super foods. Berries are grown all over the world, which makes them easy to locate all throughout the year. Nutritionists say that berries consist of phytochemicals that contain lots of antioxidants and help your body fight many types of different diseases.  Berries are full of fibre as well as vitamin B and C and other vitamins such as folate. Do not cook or heat up berries before consumption as they will quickly lose their powerful nutritional properties. Some examples of berries that can easily be found in the markets are raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries.  These are just a few of the many others that can be found all over the globe


  •  Salmon- Fish in general are packed full of beneficial nutrients, but salmon is the victor in relation to its value in sustaining health and containing components that fight diseases. Full of omega 3 fatty acids which benefit in lowering cholesterol in the blood while promoting lower blood pressure and increasing overall cardiovascular health. Choose wild salmon over farm raised salmon because of their higher nutritional value.


  • Dark Green Veggies- All vegetables, no matter their color, are healthy for you, but dark green veggies have an excess of phytochemicals while also providing many vitamins and minerals that benefit our bodies. Vitamin A and C, iron, calcium, and fiber are usually present in dark green veggies and can easily build up your health quickly. Choose veggies such as asparagus, bok choy, kale, spinach, dark lettuce, and collard greens as they contain tons of disease fighting components when eaten stir fried or raw.


  • Whole Grains- Make sure the grains you choose while shopping are in fact whole grains, and not a by-product of whole grains. Whole grains consist of bran, endosperm, and germ which are required to achieve the ultimate health benefits. Whole grains contain a type of antioxidant that cannot be taken from eating veggies or fruit. Whole grains contain tons of fiber as well as vitamins B and E, iron, magnesium, and many more. Be sure to select grains such as whole wheat, rye, barley, oats, brown rice, and others that are classified as “whole” grains.

There are many other foods that could be added to this list, but this group of foods is the cream of the crop when it comes to containing disease fighting and immune boosting vitamin and nutrient essentials. Stay away from processed foods, refined foods, and foods that are manufactured, and be sure to include the foods listed above as often as you can as part of your everyday meal plan.
